The purpose of this swimming pool installation by The Pool Craft Company Ltd., in Richmond Hill, Ont., was fairly simple – maximize all usable space in the backyard to provide the homeowners with a place for entertaining and spending time with family.
Not only did the clients want to create a gathering spot in the backyard, they wanted all the amenities as well, including a swimming pool, hot tub, interlocking paving stone patio, bar and seating areas. Incorporating this many design elements, however, posed a challenge for Pool Craft, as space was at a premium.
With these factors in mind, a 4.2- x 8.5-m (14- x 28-ft) vinyl-lined swimming pool was installed to serve as the backyard’s focal point. The sheet length of the pool and its 2.1-m (7-ft) depth allow for exercising and a range of other activities throughout its entirety, while three laminar deck jets, installed on the rear horizontal wall, add a dramatic effect.
Helping the pool standout is its dark-grey, stone-coping outline and the light-grey paving-stone textured deck, which contrasts with the redbrick home.
As the design had to consider all aspects of the yard, Pool Craft used creative thinking when it came to seating areas for guests. For instance, a “Roman-Pisa’ retaining wall at the far edge of the property doubles as poolside seating. Once mature, a row of evergreen trees and shrubs planted along neighbouring fences will provide the family with increased privacy.
Additional features include a custom bar area with granite counter tops, sink and a fridge, as well as a second seating area with a natural gas fire pit.
