
China’s Dalian Wanda Group and Richmond, B.C.’s WhiteWater recently celebrated the grand opening of the former’s first theme park last month, marking a new chapter of waterpark development in East Asia.
The first park, Xishuangbanna International Resort in in Jinghong city, features an assortment of WhiteWater waterslides as well as a themed interactive play structure.

Throughout the 60 ha (150 acres) waterpark, WhiteWater integrated a tropical jungle theme into each water play element, creating a garden of bright flower-like waterslides.
The resort, reportedly one of China’s largest culture and tourism investments, spans 600 ha (1482 acres) and incorporates seven separate areas in addition to the waterpark, including a golf course, five-star hotel, theatre, commercial centre, hospital, and a new tourism town.
With an annual capacity of 500,000 guests, Xishuangbanna International Resort Theme Park, is said to be the first of several resorts the two companies are developing together.
