The federal and B.C. governments have announced $10 million in funding for a new aquatic facility in Prince George.

The federal and B.C governments have pledged a combined $10 million towards constructing a new aquatic facility in Prince George.

The federal funding was announced July 6, and is part of nearly $50 million in investment in 24 projects in the northern part of the province.

The new centre is planned to include a four-lane pool, leisure pool, sauna, steam room, hot tub, showers, change rooms, and multi-purpose room.

The funds will also support the construction of a parking lot, pathways, landscaping, site finishing, outdoor lighting, and signage.

The federal government is providing $5,454,793 to the project, while the provincial government is chipping in $4,545,206. The City of Prince George is contributing $3,636,984.

“I am pleased to join with the federal government to invest in people and their communities. We know these investments in public spaces, in all regions of the province, will strengthen relationships and promote mental and physical well-being,” said Selina Robinson, Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing.
