After three long years of being closed, Edmonton’s popular Oliver Outdoor Pool reopened last week.

As reported by CTV, the pool held a ‘soft opening’ last week, with local resident Jacky Turnbull stating it is a big moment for the local community.

“There’s a lot of [families]. It’s dense and there are kids everywhere so it’s great to bring family back together,” Turnbull told CTV.

The pool, which is almost a century old, requires a lot of “love and care,” according to pool employee Collin Opper.

In addition to reopening Oliver Pool, several others were opened as Alberta entered the second stage of its summer reopening plans on June 10.

The pool was closed a few years ago and remained closed for issues including leaks in the drainpipe. It was on the chopping block during Edmonton’s 2021 budget deliberations but ultimately avoided closure.
