A Yukon tourism destination is getting ready to open to the public after three years of upgrades and refurbishment.
According to a report by CBC News, the Eclipse Nordic Hot Springs, also known as Takhini Hot Springs, has undergone a massive upgrade. After attending a local business development program, owner Garry Umbrich decided to change the model of his business.
“We’ve moved from being a recreational facility to a health-based facility. So, it’s very much in the direction of a spa,” Umbrich told CBC News.
Umbrich has added saunas, steam rooms, cold showers, seating areas, and relaxation areas to the improved hot springs. Visitors will also see Turkish and Icelandic influences in the seating and relaxation areas, as well as Japanese influence in the hot springs. The water temperature will also be hotter than it was previously, increasing from 37 to 38 C (99 to 100 F) to 40 C (104 F).
Despite the delays from the pandemic and the lengthy project duration, Umbrich told CBC News he is happy with the end result and, overall, the process went well. However, the facility’s reopening date has not been confirmed.
