In December 2022, LaurenHill Academy’s St. Laurent Junior Campus in Montreal celebrated the completion of a $1.9 million renovation project, targeting its swimming pool, locker rooms, and bathrooms, which started in June 2020.
The funding for the multi-year renovations came through the English Montreal School Board (EMSB)’s allocations. The swimming pool and locker rooms were the first to be targeted. The pool was equipped with new concrete floors, ceramics, podiums, and a filtration system six months into the renovations. The locker rooms, upon completion of the work in September 2022, were endowed with concrete floors in a red and grey arrangement. Other features, such as tiled walls, single-stall showers, blow dryers, storage lockers, sinks, and single-stall toilets were also installed. Washrooms outside the swimming pool area were given a makeover, reflective of the work done to the locker rooms.
“It is water safety, the importance of understanding how water works,” says Julie Ramundo, physical education teacher at LaurenHill Academy. “Having that opportunity to put kids in a pool definitely sets [LaurenHill Academy] apart.”
