Surfing enthusiasts now have a new destination to add to their bucket list: Wai Kai Wave, Hawaii’s largest wave pool located on the west side of Oahu.
However, Wai Kai offers more than just a wave pool. It is a water-focused facility called The LineUp, spanning more than 52 acres (21 ha) and catering to both novice and advanced surfers.
In addition to the standing wave of the facility, The LineUp offers visitors access to the Wai Kai Lagoon, where they can rent paddleboards, kayaks, one-person canoes, and more. The three dining venues: The LookOut, Foam Coffee & Bar, and Plaza Grill cater to a variety of palates and offer unique dining experiences.

For those interested in surfing, The LineUp provides an in-depth safety talk by wave pool instructors, a safety helmet, and a wider, easier-to-ride foam board to start with. The standing wave moves and flows differently than the ocean, allowing riders to stay on the wave for up to 30 seconds. More advanced surfers can work on turns, carves, cutbacks, and even airs, but beginners will find the experience humbling and a new sensation to get used to.
Overall, The LineUp at Wai Kai is a destination for both surfers and non-surfers, offering a range of activities and dining options, in addition to the unique surfing experience of the Wai Kai Wave.
