The Fountain Park Recreation Centre (FPRC) in St. Albert, Alberta, is closed once again, just months after its $16.5 million renovation project, which lasted from May 2022 to July 2023.

According to a notice by the City of St. Albert, the pool will be closed from 5:30 a.m. to 3:45 p.m. on October 26 for urgent maintenance to a custom-built primary air handling unit which was installed during the renovation project. The issues with this new unit were discovered during its initial operation. Activities during this period will be either canceled or rescheduled, except for the swimming lessons at 4 p.m.

After extensive diagnostic testing and troubleshooting, a complete shutdown is necessary to make essential adjustments. This will enhance the unit’s efficiency and provide a more stable environment for facility users.

Due to Alberta Health Services (AHS) requirements, the aquatics facility cannot operate without a functioning air handling system. The city has scheduled this maintenance to minimize disruptions and apologizes for any inconvenience it may cause.
