Port Hardy’s indoor swimming pool reopening has been delayed until January due to ongoing issues with the dehumidification system, which was the initial cause of the delay.
According to a report by North Island Gazette, earlier, the reopening was scheduled for mid-December—as also reported in this Pool & Spa Marketing news item—but now the dehumidification unit is expected to arrive in the second week of December, with contractors working swiftly to install it alongside the pool membrane. Once the system is in place and operational, water can be added to the pool, and calibration will take place.
The North Island Gazette report further states that testing, training, permitting, and final inspection are projected to be completed in early January. The district is committed to the project and will provide updates on progress. Port Hardy Mayor, Pat Corbett-Labatt, hopes for completion before the end of January but cannot provide a specific date at this time. She emphasizes the importance of the pool, especially for teaching swimming skills in a community close to both saltwater and freshwater.
