The decommissioned swimming pool at Oakwood Collegiate Institute in Toronto will soon become a weight room and fitness centre after Toronto District School Board (TDSB) trustees approved the project in December.
According to an InsideToronto.com report, converting the swimming pool, which is located in the basement of the 70-year-old school, will cost the board an estimated $450,000. The project is expected to be completed in February and is being funded through the TDSB’s School Facilities Revitalization Master Plan (SFRMP).
The school’s pool was drained and decommissioned in 2009, along with six other school pools, which required $4.3 million in capital investment and did not have significant community use or geographic equity to warrant the expense.
