The Pool & Hot Tub Council of Canada’s (PHTCC’s) 2011 Toronto chapter golf tournament was once again a success, with 148 golfers participating in the event for the second year in a row.
Association members gathered on Aug. 23 at the Cardinal Golf Club in Newmarket, Ont., which hosted the event last year, with hopes of bringing home the top prize. The day, which had favourable golfing weather, began with registration and a buffet breakfast in the morning and a shotgun start at noon.
After play concluded, attendees gathered in the clubhouse banquet hall for dinner, comprising a Texas twist barbecue and the announcement of the skill award winners, including:
• John Bliszczuk, Brian Barr, Tom Hammond and Jason Stronach (SCP Distributors), who won the grand-prize team trophy (lowest combined score) for the third year in a row with a 13 under par;
• Steven Taylor (Tay-Fam) and Karen Kett (Latham International), winners of the men’s and women’s closest-to-the-pin contest;
• Paul Putzsay (Leisure Pools) and Nicole Robinson (Zodiac), winners of the men’s and women’s longest-drive competition;
• Crystal Reid (Sani-Marc), winner of the closest-to-the-marker challenge;
• Bill Gunter (Bremner Pools), who won the putting contest; and
• Randy Nemez (Rheem Canada), winner of the closest-to-a-hole-in-one competition.
All event participants were also eligible to win a variety of items by random draw from the prize table, which was valued at more than $5,000. Top prizes included 32-in. and 47-in., LCD HDTVs, men’s and women’s mountain bikes, a saltwater pool system from Hayward Pool Products, two sets of golf clubs and three official NHL jerseys (Toronto, Montreal and Ottawa).
The final prize of the night went to Bryan Kemott (Northeastern Swimming Pool Distributors), who won the 50/50 draw. He took home $750; the other half was donated to the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto. Several manufacturers and local pool companies also donated prizes and sponsored holes and skill competitions.
