The Cardinal Golf Club in Newmarket, Ont., played host to the Pool & Hot Tub Council of Canada’s (PHTCC’s) 2012 Toronto chapter golf tournament where members were greeted with a buffet breakfast and perfect golfing weather.
Nearly 140 PHTCC members (more than 30 foursomes) participated in the Aug. 21 event, each hoping to add their names to the chapter’s ‘Top Team’ trophy. After hitting the links, attendees gathered in the clubhouse banquet hall for a Texas twist barbecue buffet, prize giveaway, and the announcement of the skill award winners, which included:
• Brian Barr (four-time winner), Rick Short, Kevin Hammond and Jordan Mair (SCP Distributors), won the grand-prize team trophy (lowest combined score) with a 12 under par;
• Erik Tolles (Pool & Spa Marketing) and Toby Slack (Majestic Pools), won the men’s and women’s closest-to-the-pin contest;
• David Berger (Kafko) won the men’s longest drive competition, while Nicole Robinson (Zodiac), for the second consecutive year, had the women’s longest drive;
• Michelle Dagenais (Oracle RMS), won the closest-to-the-marker challenge; and
• Toby Slack took home $200 in winning the putting contest.

The format of the prize giveaway program, which was open to all event participants, was slightly altered this year. Winners were still selected via random draw; however, after being called, attendees were able to pick their own prize from a number of items, which were valued at more than $5,000. Further, upon registration, attendees were also given a number of raffle tickets, with the opportunity to purchase more, and deposit them into five different containers representing this year’s five top prizes. They included an iPad2, barbecue, mountain bike, Tassimo coffee maker and a 32-in. flat-screen TV. Several manufacturers and local pool companies also donated giveaway prizes in addition to a record number of sponsored holes and skill competitions.
Steven Taylor, Toronto chapter president, also presented Rich Hubbard with a plaque and memento in recognition for his past work with the chapter.
