The National Swimming Pool Foundation® (NSPF) board of directors have increased their commitment to the Step Into Swim™ campaign by doubling the amount the organization will match, from $25,000 to $50,000, for donations received by Oct. 31.
The 10-year program, which will see the NSPF team up with various organizations in an effort to improve public health and reduce drowning by teaching children, adults, and minority populations to swim, was introduced this past June (PSM Online, June 14, 2012).
To date, donations have reached more than $63,000. Most recently, Anita Sayed, a member of NSPF’s board of directors, donated $10,000, which was matched by the foundation, for a total of $20,000.
“This campaign addresses many important issues; it will help address the legacy of fear and will save lives by helping people of all ages and minority populations take swim lessons,” explained Sayed.
John Puetz, chair of the NSPF’s board of directors added, “It is heartening to see industry members, large and small, step up and share their resources to help create more swimmers through the Step Into Swim campaign. We can do great things together, yet, we need more help.”
