The Canadian pool and spa industry lost a veteran this month, with the passing of Charlie Mousseau. He was 64.
Mousseau, the founder of CL Marketing Inc., lost his battle with cancer on February 2. He was actively involved in the swimming pool industry for more than 30 years and highly respected amongst his peers. He started his career with Jacuzzi Pumps, went on to PAC Sales, and later moved to Sun Valley Pools. After moving to Calgary in 1980, Mousseau started CL Marketing, a pool/spa chemical manufacturing business, based out of his home before expanding the company into its own office/warehouse facility. Earlier this year, Mousseau announced the sale of the company’s shares to Patrick Lajoie, who was the company’s general manager at the time. The company’s name has changed slightly to CLM Distribution Inc., with Lajoie now the president and owner.
Mousseau often shared his expertise in the field of chemical feed and automation systems for commercial pools via article contributions to Pool & Spa Marketing and was heavily involved with the Canadian Spa & Pool Association (CANSPA)—now the Pool & Hot Tub Council of Canada (PHTCC)—as chapter president, member of the executive board of directors, and national education chairman. Through CL Marketing and its sister company, Lectranator Inc., a commercial salt chlorine generator manufacturer, he supported the PHTCC’s annual Public Pool Symposium by sponsoring the event through both companies.
He was also involved with the Alberta Association of Recreation Facility Personnel (AARFP) for 15 years. In 1994, he received the William Metcalfe Award for excellence in the field of recreation, and in 2004—his final year on the AARFP board—he received the Associates Award for demonstrating a positive contribution serving the membership. That same year, the AARFP renamed the award the Charles Mousseau Associates Award.
He is survived by his wife, Jean, daughter, Lisa, and son, Chuck.
