Variable speed pumps from Hayward Pool Products and Pentair Aquatic Systems will now carry the Energy Star® label after recently being certified by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).
According to the EPA, Energy Star certified pool pumps will save consumers thousands of dollars over their lifetime, pay for themselves in less than three years as well as operate quieter and prolong the life of a pool’s filtering system.
The variable speed pumps from Hayward that have received this certification include: EcoStar,® EcoStar© C, EcoStar® SVRS, EcoStar® C SVRS, Super Pump® VS, and Max-Flo VS.™
“We take Hayward’s commitment to manufacturing environmental-responsible pool products very seriously,” said Scott Petty, the company’s product manager, pumps and above-ground equipment. “So, we’re pleased the EPA is recognizing the important energy savings and overall environmental benefits our pool pumps provide.”
Pentair, which has been working with Energy Star since 2008, can now affix the widely recognized energy efficiency label to a number of its variable speed pumps, including the IntelliFlo® Variable Speed, IntelliFlo® VF, IntelliFlo® VS+SVRS, IntelliFlo® XF, IntelliPro® Variable Speed, IntelliPro® VS+SVRS, and IntelliPro® XF.
“Most consumers are familiar with the Energy Star label found on qualifying home appliances,” said Jeff Farlow, Pentair’s program manager of energy initiatives. “Now, qualifying pool pumps will be eligible to earn the Energy Star label.
“This is big news for the pool industry because consumers recognize by using these certified products they are doing their part to help protect the environment and save money on their utility bills.”
With this in mind, Pentair has created point-of-sale materials (e.g. hang tags, in-store signage, etc.) to help their dealers spread the word about Energy Star certification.
Testing is still ongoing as both Hayward and Pentair have additional pumps that are undergoing the certification process and will be announced when available.
