A community fundraising committee in Lucknow, Ont., hopes to raise $110,000 this summer to start construction on a public splash pad facility.
According to a report by the Lucknow Sentinel, the splash pad committee, which comprises local individuals and clubs, has currently raised $52,000 and hopes to obtain an Ontario Trillium grant.
“We initially wanted to start construction in the spring, but that has been postponed because we recently applied for an Ontario Trillium grant, which we are waiting on,” Barry Johnston, chair of the splash pad committee, said in the report. “We met with the Trillium representatives and they said we couldn’t even put a shovel in the ground until we had approval for the grant, which they also said we have a good chance at getting.
“We applied for $60,000 and we hope to at least get $40,000.”
In efforts to reach this funding goal, the splash pad committee also released a sponsorship letter asking community members to make monetary donations under a platinum, gold, silver, and bronze-tiered program. Those donating more than $20 will receive a tax receipt from the Huron-Kinloss Township.
The planned project site is located next to the Lucknow pool, which will allow those using the splash pad to share the pool’s change room facilities.
