A new standard for factory built residential portable hot tubs and swim spas is now available through the Association of Pool & Spa Professionals (APSP).

A new standard for manufacturers and distributors of factory built residential portable hot tubs and swim spas is now available.

The American National Standards Institute (ANSI)/Association of Pool & Spa Professionals (APSP)/International Code Council (ICC)-6: 2013 Standard for Residential Portable Spas and Swim Spas is in synch with the Underwriters Laboratories (UL) 1563 standard on Electric Spas, Equipment Assemblies, and Associated Equipment, and the 2012 International Swimming Pool and Spa Code (ISPSC), and includes additional requirements such as stair and step construction standards. The standard does not cover non-self-contained spas, public spas/swim spas, or permanently installed residential spas/swim spas.

“(This standard) provides the parameters for state-of-the-art portable hot tubs complete with the latest fun and safety features,” said Carvin DiGiovanni, APSP senior director, technical and standards. “It’s a must-have for all manufacturers and distributors of factory built residential portable spas and swim spas who want to instill consumer confidence in purchasing a quality product.”
