In recognition of the Brevard County Environmental Health Services Department’s commitment to lowering drowning rates in Florida, the Association of Pool & Spa Professionals (APSP) recently presented the organization with the 2013 Dr. Neil Lowry Memorial Award.
The award recognizes public health officials who have made outstanding contributions to advance the public’s healthy and safe use of recreational water. The $5,000 grant, which accompanied the award, was accepted on behalf of the department by Cynthia Leckey, environmental supervisor II.
The county health department plans to use the grant to provide scholarships to children up to six years of age whose families are not able to afford swimming lessons.
The award is presented in memory of Dr. Neil Lowry who was a regular contributor to Pool & Spa Marketing, and a long-time member of the APSP who influenced the aquatics industry for more than 25 years. For more information on the award, visit www.apsp.org.
