Glenn Kilmer (L) receives the men’s longest drive award from Peter Brown, Toronto chapter vice-president.

This year nearly 37 foursomes (147 golfers) competed in the Aug. 20 tournament, each vying for the ‘Top Team’ trophy along with getting their name on various skill awards along the way. After play concluded, attendees gathered in the clubhouse banquet hall for the Texas twist barbecue, which many have come to love, along with the prize giveaway and announcement of the tournament champions and skill award winners, which included:

  • Neil Christiansen, Gary Lewis, and David and Mike Luciani (Lawrason’s), won the grand-prize team trophy (lowest combined score) with a 16 under par;
  • Frank Blanchet (Betz Pools Ltd.) and Michelle Dagenais (Oracle RMS Insurance), were the winners of the men’s and women’s closest-to-the-pin contest;
  • Glenn Kilmer (Kilmer Environmental) won the men’s longest drive competition, while Nicole Robinson (Zodiac), for the third consecutive year, had the women’s longest drive;
  • Jeff Orchard (The Tape Measure), won the closest-to-the-marker challenge; and
  • Dave Lamb (The Backyard Pool & Spa Company) took home $160 in winning the putting contest.

Once again, all event participants were also eligible to win one of a variety of items by random draw from the prize table, which was valued at more than $6,000. Attendees were also given raffle tickets after registering, and had the opportunity to purchase more, to deposit them into five different containers representing this year’s five top prizes. They included an iPad mini, mountain bike, Sony digital camera, compact drill and impact driver combo, and a 32-in. TV.
