Legends Centre splash pad opens in Oshawa
Thanks to an investment from the Government of Canada’s Community Infrastructure Improvement Fund, the city of Oshawa, Ont., has upgraded the playground at The Legends Centre to include a new accessible splash pad.

The Legends Centre, one of the largest recreational facilities in Oshawa, Ont., has upgraded its playground to include a new accessible splash pad.

The city, with assistance through a $166,666 investment from the Government of Canada’s Community Infrastructure Improvement Fund, has expanded and improved the playground to include a tot and senior area with a variety of spray and water features in addition to shade tables and tree plantings.

Thanks to the input received from the Oshawa Accessibility Advisory Committee, the splash pad was designed to be accessible by offering barrier-free walkways and seating. It is also environmentally friendly as the splash pad is fully automated to conserve and decrease water usage via filtration and recirculation.

“This new splash pad will be a great complement to the already popular Legends Centre and will serve our community for years to come,” said Mayor John Henry. “Splash pads have become a favourite summer destination for children and parents to cool off, and offer a fun way to create memories during hot summer days. With the help from the government, we are able to include the Legends Centre Splash Pad to our list of great amenities.”
