The Canada Games Aquatic Centre in London, Ont., recently re-opened after more than $6.3 million in renovations and improvements were completed.
According to a report by CTV London News, the federal government chipped in $785,000 towards the facility upgrades, while the city covered the balance of the multi-million dollar project. Improvements to the 24-year-old facility, which was built in the ’90s, include a new catwalk, competition lighting, ultraviolet (UV) water treatement, light-emitting diode (LED) lighting, pool bulkheads, heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems, hydraulic floor, and new paint and tile work. Thanks to these upgrades the city is expecting a 41 per cent decrease in energy usage, making the facility more cost-effective and energy efficient.
“The City of London is grateful for the funding received under the Federal Gas Tax Fund,” London Mayor Joni Baechler said in a statement. This support from the Government of Canada made it possible for us to include enhancements and upgrades to this popular facility, which our community will benefit from for years to come.”
