After a four-month search, Richard Gottwald has been selected to lead the Association of Pool & Spa Professionals (APSP) as its new president and CEO.

Gottwald, the former executive vice-president of the International Sign Association (ISA), brings more than 26 years of association executive experience to his new role, which he will assume on Sept. 16. He will replace the APSP’s current president and CEO, William Weber, who will continue in an advisory role until his planned retirement in December.

“We welcome Rich’s fiscal management experience and leadership to APSP,” says the association’s chairman of the board, Steve Gorlin. “I believe, given the key changes over the past year, with a new board of directors and a strategic management process, Rich has the traction and vision to strengthen APSP’s leadership role.”

In his new position, Gottwald, who will also serve as a member of the APSP’s board of directors, will work to strengthen the relevance of the association to the industry and in turn extend the relevance of the industry’s products to the consumer.

“APSP is at the forefront of all issues affecting pools, spas and hot tubs,” added Gottwald. “Companies ranging from large and small manufacturers to family owned businesses rely on the association’s technical knowledge and legislative and regulatory expertise to protect and grow their businesses.

“I am excited to be a part of the APSP, building on the great strides made by member volunteers throughout the years.”
