
The schedule for the Association of Pool & Spa Professionals’ APSP University certification courses and training during the 2017 International Pool | Spa | Patio Expo in Orlando, Fla., has been released.
The certification courses, which are geared towards pool and spa builders, designers, service providers, and retailers, will include the:
- Pool & Spa Construction Course (PSCC), which is designed for novice and experienced pool and spa builders, as well as designers who need to know more about pool and spa construction. This three-day program, led by faculty presenter Rick English of English Consulting, covers the APSP Builders Manual and gives key information to conform to industry standards and prepare for the Certified Building Professional® (CBP ) exam.
- Certified Service Technician (CST) Course which is ideal for experienced pool and spa service repair technicians looking to complete their skill set. This three-day course, led by faculty presenter Frank Goldstein, CST, CBP, of Chesapeake Aquatic Consultants, provides an overview of circulation, filtration, hydraulics, and electricity and explains common problems with pool finishes and how to repair them.
Students who successfully complete the certification courses will have the option to take computerized testing with immediate results. Traditional testing on-site will also be available with results in approximately three weeks.
Goldstein will also present a one-day course called ‘Train the Trainer.’ It will give attendees the practical platform skills and confidence needed to succeed, while putting the latest trends and techniques at their fingertips.
A number of APSP University presentations will also be available, including:
- The Buzz About Fibreglass Pools, presented by APSP Fiberglass Pool Manufacturers Council members Rick Black (Latham Pool Products); Juanita Felix (Alaglas Pools); Curt Prystupa (Sun Fiberglass Products of Kentucky); and Tony Walton (Barrier Reef Pools).
- Introducing the Professional Pool & Spa Operator Course, presented by Silvia Uribe (APSP).
- How to Maximize your Profits Using Manufacturers’ Agents, presented by Jared Schwab (Alpha West Marketing) and Michael Moreton (Atlantic Sales Connection).
- Troubleshooting Portable Hot Tubs: Tips on What to Look For, presented by John Schaedler (Aqua Quip).
- Marketing & Merchandising for the Modern Pool Retailer, led by Dave Warren (Total Tech Pools & Leisure).
- Changing Laws, Codes and Standards Affecting the Pool and Spa Industry: How APSP is Protecting You and What the Changes Mean to Your Business, led by Steve Getzoff, Esq., partner (Lester Schwab Katz & Dwyer, LLP) and Jennifer Hatfield, Esq. (APSP).
- Water Chemistry in Challenging Pools, presented by APSP Recreational Water Quality Committee Members, including Gregory Garrett (Applied Materials Technologies Inc.), Kenneth Gregory (Pentair Water Quality Systems), Joseph Laurino, Ph.D. (Periodic Products), and Jody O’Grady (Taylor Technologies Inc.).
