After an investment of $3.5 million, Super Aqua Club, in Point-Calumet, Que., recently unveiled its newest waterslide attraction, the Tsunami.

Super Aqua Club, a waterpark in Point-Calumet, Que., recently unveiled a new waterslide called the Tsunami, an aquatic rollercoaster which is comparable to a giant slalom descent that lasts approximately two minutes.

Designed and manufactured by Ottawa-based ProSlide Technology Inc., Super Aqua Club invested $3.5 million to have the waterslide custom-designed for the park and, for the time being, owns its exclusivity rights in North America. The only other similar waterslide in existence is a prototype at the Siam Park in Spain.

Visitors can enjoy the high-speed Tsunami onboard three-seat tubes which slide down dark tunnels at full speed until being launched into open areas shaped like saucers. Consisting of multiple curves with different radiuses, the ride’s design allows for faster sliding, more closed turns, and a greater gravitational force over more than 200 m (656 ft).

“When we saw its prototype being tested in Spain in September 2015, we immediately started the process to obtain the rights to build one in Quebec,” says Super Aqua Club’s CEO Réjean Julien Proulx.

Super Aqua Club first opened in 1985 and receives, on average, 300,000 visitors per season. The park features more than 45 different waterslides and is bordered by a sand beach on the edge of Pointe-Calumet Lake.
