The maker of Banana Boat continuous spray sunscreen products has issued a recall due to risks of the product catching fire on the skin should contact be made with an open flame before it dries.
According to Energizer Holdings Canada Inc., cases of this occuring have been reported in Canada and the U.S. As a result, the company is pulling its Banana Boat Ultra Defense SPF 60 spray sunscreen (180 ml) and Banana Boat Sport Performance SPF 60 spray sunscreen (180 ml) products from retail stores across Canada, while 23 sunscreen varieties have been recalled in the U.S.
The company has identified the size of the spray valve opening on the affected products to be the problem.
“The spray valve opening on the affected products dispenses more than is typical in the industry for continuous sun care sprays,” the company said in a statement. “As a result, the product is taking longer to dry on the skin than is typical with other continuous sprays.”
Products affected by this recall were sold across Canada from January 2010 to October 2012. A complete list of the affected products can be found here[1].
