Valley Pool and Spa received a gold-award for this project in the category for pools with vanishing edge (56 m2 [601 sf] or more).
Valley Pool and Spa, a swimming pool and spa builder in Kelowna, B.C., received four International Awards of Excellence and was the top Canadian company in the International Pool | Spa | Patio Expo’s design competition held during the show in Las Vegas, Nev.

The company received three gold awards and one silver award. Each of the winning pools was designed by Skip Phillips, owner of Questar Pools & Spas and co-founder of Genesis 3, and built by Valley Pool and Spa.

This project earned a silver award in the technical/engineering achievement category.

“We had to overcome some unique challenges on each of these jobs,” says Gene Brown, owner of Valley Pool. “For example, the vanishing edge pool with the floating chaise lounge is actually built on the side of a mountain, two storeys off the ground.”

“The black-tiled vanishing-edge pool, on the other hand, had an entirely different challenge. We had to demolish and remove an existing swimming pool by hand, as access to the backyard was only a few feet wide, which meant we had to jackhammer and wheelbarrow everything out, piece by piece.”

Sponsored by the Association of Pool and Spa Professionals (APSP), the international competition also included entries from Central America, Europe and Australia.
