Canadian Pool & Spa Conference & Expo

And the award goes to…

According to the PHTCC, participation in its 2011 Design & Construction awards was one of the highest on record, with more than 250 entries received. This year’s sold-out gala evening—sponsored by Latham Splash Canada Inc., BioLab Canada Inc., Northeastern Swimming Pool Distributors (NSPD) Inc., and Zodiac Pool Systems Canada Inc.—saw attendees gather for a cocktail reception, located just off the show floor, before enjoying a plated diner in one of the convention centre’s ballrooms.

The PHTCC’s gala evening saw guests enjoy a live performance by the Caverners, a Beatles tribute band.

Shortly after dinner, guests were welcomed to ‘twist and shout’ to the tunes of The Caverners, a tribute band using authentic instruments and costumes to present an almost perfect portrayal of the Beatles in concert. The entertainment was sponsored by Central Spa & Pool Supply and Waterco Canada Inc.

After the band’s first of two sets, the PHTCC handed out awards in recognition of leadership and exceptional service. This year’s recipients were: Ed Gibbs (Industry Achievement Award); Piscines Bonaventure (Dealer of the Year); Sani-Marc Group (Western Supplier of the Year); and PoolWerx Inc. (Eastern Supplier of the Year).

The presentation of the Design & Construction Awards, sponsored by Pool & Spa Marketing and Pools, Spas & Patios, saw 36 companies recognized with plaques for their outstanding workmanship in 47 categories of swimming pools, spas, aquatic features and splash pads. A pictorial of the gold award winners can be found on pages 56-61.

What’s in store for 2012?

Visitor and exhibitor surveys were conducted immediately following the event. According to Robert Wood, the PHTCC’s executive director, feedback was extremely positive.

“It would appear the 2011 edition of the Conference & Expo struck the right balance in terms of providing opportunities for our members to learn, network and socialize,” he explained. “With that being said, we are looking at two different dates for the convention in 2012 and are in the midst of negotiations to determine the best fit for the council. We should be in a position to make an announcement with regards to our plans for next year’s Canadian Pool & Spa Conference & Expo by mid-January.”
