
Thanks impart to above normal temperatures experienced throughout the summer of 2012, not only did the swimming pool building season start strong but it also finished with the largest number of registered building permits since the early 90s.In fact, the number of registered swimming pool building permits increased over 2011 in every quarter. With last spring being the ninth warmest on Environment Canada records, the first quarter saw a 47.4 per cent increase in issued permits over 2011. And, thanks to a relatively warm and dry summer, this trend continued throughout the second, third, and fourth quarters as well, with increases of 14, 12.5, and 15 per cent respectively.
“The very early spring allowed us to get working really early,” said John Petrocelli, sales manager for Backyard Getaways in Brampton, Ont. “Our sales increased last season by almost 12 per cent over 2011.”
In all, the 2012 season saw nationwide pool permit registrations increase by 16 per cent, from 10,803 permits in 2011 to 12,517 in 2012. Permit registration in census metropolitan areas (CMAs) also increased by 15 per cent, representing a total of 1,225 more registered permits than in 2011.
