Filbur Manufacturing will provide financial and volunteer support for the 2013 Aspen Medical Products San Diego Triathlon Challenge (SDTC), marking the third consecutive year the filter maker has participated in this event.
Organized by the Challenged Athletes Foundation® (CAF), the SDTC helps individuals with physical challenges—including injured military—get involved in sports. This year’s challenge, which will take place on Oct. 20, marks the 20th anniversary of the event.
“You really have to experience the event first-hand to realize the impact this organization has on the individuals it supports and how many it takes to pull off,” says Filbur’s marketing manager, Shelly Johnson. “This year we’ve decided to focus specifically on the SDTC Dodge Challenged Athlete Swim Clinic as it ties in with the mission of our industry, which is promoting the enjoyment and safety of water.”
Athletes of all ages and abilities from around the world will gather in La Jolla Cove, Calif., for this event, which features a ‘challenge’ distance triathlon, a 1.6 km (1 mile) swim, 71 km (44 mile) bike, and a 16 km (10 mile) run. More than 200 challenged athletes will compete side-by-side against 500 able-bodied participants.
