Filbur Manufacturing, a maker of pool/spa filters in Buena Park, Calif., was a silver sponsor of the 19th Annual Aspen Medical Products San Diego Triathlon Challenge (SDTC), which raised $1.4 million to help physically challenged individuals get involved in sports.More than 5,000 supporters, spectators, and participants gathered at the La Jolla Cove in San Diego, Calif., where competitors were challenged to a distance triathlon comprising a 1.6-km (1-mile) swim, 71-km (44-mile) bike, and a 16-km (10-mile) run. More than 200 challenged athletes competed in the event side-by-side with 500 able-bodied athletes.
“Being part of CAF’s SDTC is truly a life-changing event for all involved—spectators and participants alike,” says Filbur’s marketing manager, Shelly Johnson. “Most people don’t realize the financial implications of the equipment and support involved in getting just one challenged individual back on his/her feet—both literally and figuratively.”
Funds raised during the event allow the Challenged Athletes Foundation® (CAF) to support challenged athletes by providing grants for adaptive sports equipment, training, and competition expenses so they can live active lifestyles and participate in sports.
