Betz Pools faced the challenge of designing a multi-functional backyard for a young family with grandchildren in a new estate home located nearby Lake Ontario in Newcastle, Ont.
The solution involved creating five descending terraces from the main floor loggia to the basement walkout, transforming the backyard into distinct areas for relaxation and entertainment. The covered loggia, suitable for use across three seasons, features a dining area, lounge, and barbecue station, with a two-sided wood-burning fireplace adding ambiance at night. The terraced design includes a 2.1 x 2.1 m (7 x 7 ft) vinyl-over-steel spa and a 4.8 x 10 m (16 x 34 ft) custom vinyl pool, the latter surrounded by Halton Grey flagstone coping and enhanced by three fire bowls with cascading waterfalls. These features, combined with the backyard’s earth-toned palette and the swimming pool’s gold pebble vinyl liner, create a visually appealing and functional outdoor space for the entire family.
