Best team score (L-R): Ron Ramer (Betz Pools Ltd.), Phil Bach (Pentair Aquatic Systems), Keith Betz (Betz Pools Ltd.) and Darren Hill (Pentair Aquatic Systems). The team shot a combined score of minus-11.

Lionhead Golf Club & Conference Centre in Brampton, Ont., played host to the Pool & Hot Tub Council of Canada’s (PHTCC’s) Toronto chapter annual golf tournament for the second consecutive year, which attracted 112 participants.

Despite the dip in attendance for the Aug. 23 tournament, all golfers came eager to play on the club’s Legends course with the goal of adding their names to the tournament’s ‘Top Team’ trophy.

“Beautiful weather made it a great day for golf, thus only 28 teams were able to make it out due to the busy summer our industry has seen,” says the PHTCC’s show and sponsorship manager, Mette Yellowlees.

Once again, the first hole set the stage for many golfers of all skill levels due to the green’s complex ‘Lion’s paw’ shape, while the Credit River which meanders through the course created challenging water hazards on several holes.

This year, the putting contest was replaced with a new game called golf pong (sponsored by Rheem) as a fun addition to the tournament. Here, golfers were tasked with chipping three balls into buckets. The winner of the inaugural golf pong challenge, and beer and Baileys prize, was Don Smith of Backyard Pool & Spa Company.

The men’s longest drive trophy was awarded to Raymond Hilaire (Bonavista Pools Ltd.).

After play concluded, attendees gathered in the Teresse room for a buffet dinner, team and individual trophy announcements, and the prize giveaway, which included items such as a Niagara Falls getaway package, Lionhead golf package with Nike golf bag, Fitbit Charge,™ and CCM bike. Each golfer was given four free tickets for the prize draw and had the opportunity to buy additional tickets for a greater chance to win.

The chapter also auctioned off supplier donated items from Pentair Aquatic Systems and Zodiac Pool Systems Canada Inc., in addition to foursome passes to any KaneffGolf course.

This year’s tournament champions and skill award recipients included:

Proceeds from the golf tournament help to fund the chapter’s billboard and radio campaigns, educational programs, and social functions, which promote the pool and spa/hot tub industry.
