For customers of Mermaid Pools and Hot Tubs in Ottawa, next Friday could be their lucky day as the retailer is offering a full refund on swimming pools and/or hot tubs purchased between July 13 and Aug. 6 if the temperature reaches 34 C (93.2 F) on Aug. 16.
According to a report by CTV Ottawa, it was Environment Canada’s forecast for a hot, dry summer, which inspired Mermaid’s Dave McNaughton to come up with the idea.
“If we hit 34 C at the Ottawa International Airport on August 16, any deposits of 25 per cent will be eligible to win their purchase for free,” McNaughton told the broadcaster.
According to CTV Ottawa‘s weathercaster, J.J. Clarke, the odds of the temperature reaching 34 C on Aug. 16 should be good as there have been more days above 30 C (86 F) this summer than usual. In fact, seven days in the last two weeks have reached 30 C or higher, with 35.2 C (95.4 F) on Aug. 4 being the warmest.
“This has been a great year as the weather is really co-operating with us,” McNaughton told PSM Online. “We are insured for millions of dollars to allow this contest to take place and we want people to win. Not only is the publicity good, but it is also a great opportunity to potentially create a lot of happy customers.”
The promotion includes all hot tubs as well as inground, semi-inground and above ground pools.
