The second phase of Vortex Aquatic Structures’ manufacturing plant expansion in Montreal saw the company add computer numerical control (CNC) machines, which will enable it to create more complex, innovative product designs.

Vortex Aquatic Structures International, a Montreal-based manufacturer of aquatic play landscapes and entertainment features, has completed the second phase of its manufacturing plant expansion which began last year.

During this development stage, the company added advanced R&D technology, including computer numerical control (CNC) machines to deliver unique, progressive, user-friendly, and technology-driven products. By adding this new technology it doubles the company’s production capacity in terms of run-time and parts produced.

Further, with the additional machines, Vortex can also assign production more strategically—older machines will be used to produce smaller parts, while the new, five-axis machines will be deployed to design and produce bigger, more complex parts.

“We’re continuing to invest in the expansion of our in-house production capabilities to drive new designs that couldn’t have been produced a short time ago,” says Vortex president, Stephen Hamelin. “With our new machines and expanded capability, we will be able to offer our customers unique aquatic play designs.”

During the first expansion phase, which took place earlier this year, Vortex added nearly 1858 m2 (20,000 sf), including a 223 m2 (2400 sf) testing pool to allow products to be tested at any given time.
