NESPA executive director announces upcoming retirement

Northeast Spa & Pool Association (NESPA)[2] executive director, Lawrence Caniglia, announces he will semi-retire on Feb. 1, 2018 to pursue other interests. He has held this position with the association for nearly 14 years.

Under Caniglia’s leadership, the association launched several initiatives, including bringing licensing to Connecticut and New York (Rockland, Nassau, and Suffolk County), building the association’s membership, and expanding programs like the Annual Congress of Committees.

During his time as executive director, he has also led the board and other association volunteers through the development of multiple strategic plans with the most recent being adopted in 2016. This multi-year plan will help to support a smooth transition with the next executive director.

“I know I speak for all of our members when I thank Lawrence for his years of service to our industry,” says NESPA president Irene Insignares. “We will all miss his guidance, forward thinking, and commitment to the association, but I know over the last 14 years he has built a strong foundation that will help ensure a smooth transition as we look to find our next executive director.”

Caniglia says his 14-year tenure with NESPA have given him great opportunities to grow professionally as well as personally.

“I believe now is a good time for me to step back due to the experience and continuity of our current staff and board of directors,” he says. “I feel comfortable with the direction we are going and that NESPA will continue to best serve its members.”

A search committee comprising NESPA volunteers is in place and an executive search firm, Vetted Solutions, has been contracted to help conduct a national search to identify candidates for the position.
