New splash pad planned for Hagersville Park[1]
The Hagersville Lions Club is working on fundraising plans to raise $157,500 to build a new splash pad at Hagersville Park.

Plans are in place for the construction of a new splash pad at Hagersville Park, located southwest of Hamilton, after Haldimand County council approved the $550,000 project.

Council will use $192,500 from its capital reserve fund, along with another $200,000 from its Community Vibrancy Fund. The remainder of the money ($157,500), however, will need to be raised by the Hagersville District Lions Club.

“This will be the biggest project we’ve taken on as a club,” Wilrik Banada, group president, told the Simcoe Reformer. “Coming up with the money will be a challenge. We are finalizing our plans for this; I hope our excitement for this project generates excitement in the community and helps us reach our goal. I’m confident we can get there.”

Hagersville Coun. Tony Dalimonte feels the splash pad, in addition to the town’s other amenities, will draw new buyers to the town.

“The Lions have a tremendous history and proven track record of completing major projects in Hagersville,” Dalimonte said. “I hope this will be another addition to their list. It will be a tremendous addition to that park.”

According to the report, the town’s 45-year-old wading pool will be removed to make room for the splash pad, without the need to use any additional park space. This water feature will be the second of its type in the county. The first was built in 2012 and has regularly drawn 20,000 people between the months of July and August.

Construction of the new splash pad is expected to be completed by summer 2015.
