The Association of Pool & Spa Professionals (APSP) has named Lawrence Caniglia its new president and CEO, while Dominick Mondi will become the new executive director of the Northeast Spa & Pool Association (NESPA)[1]
Lawrence Caniglia (left), formerly with the Northeast Spa & Pool Association (NESPA), will assume his new position as president and CEO at the Association of Pool & Spa Professionals (APSP) in February, while Dominick Mondi will become NESPA’s new executive director on Jan. 22.

The Association of Pool & Spa Professionals[2]’ (APSP’s) board of directors has selected industry veteran Lawrence Caniglia to serve as its new president and CEO, while after an extensive executive search, the Northeast Spa & Pool Association[3] (NESPA) has named Dominick Mondi its new executive director.

For nearly 14 years, Caniglia has served as the executive director of NESPA providing benefits and services to nearly 850-member companies, while also directing activities of the NESPA Foundation. Earlier this year, he announced his plans to step down to pursue the next phase of his association-focused career.

Caniglia distinguished himself at NESPA by building relationships across the industry, advancing professionalism and licensing in the northeast region, growing the association’s membership, and championing a culture where members actively engaged in planning and executing key programs and activities. He succeeds APSP’s departing president and CEO, Rich Gottwald, who has been credited with rebuilding the organization’s financial position, increasing its membership by more than 20 per cent, establishing the association as an industry-leading government advocacy voice, growing its educational offerings, and expanding its industry affiliations in the U.S., and internationally.

Caniglia will be charged with advancing APSP’s strategic goals, including creating a world-class industry educational system, developing uniform codes and standards to benefit the industry and serve consumers, and continuing to provide industry-wide government relations leadership. His proven relationship building and networking skills are particularly well suited for growing the association’s influence and advancing key initiatives, such as the recently launched Professional Pool & Spa Operator Course (PPSO) and APSP University’s other expansive course offerings. He also brings a strong track record of proactive government relations advocacy across the gamut of licensing, design, construction, and safety issues.

He will assume his new position at APSP in February, and will work closely with Gottwald, who has agreed to stay with the association for several months in an advisory position.

Mondi currently serves as president of the Associated Building Contractors, New Jersey chapter, and he previously held the position of executive director of the New Jersey Nursery and Landscape Association. He began his career as a landscape architect, receiving his bachelor of science from Rutgers University. Over the last decade, he has coupled his experience as a landscape architect and small business owner with extensive work managing and growing trade associations.

He will assume his new position at NESPA on January 22, as Caniglia, who has held the title since 2004, steps away from the organization. Among his first tasks will be attending the 2018 Pool & Spa Show in Atlantic City (January 22-25). Members can look forward to having the opportunity to meet him at the NESPA membership suite and during other events taking place at the show.
