Calypso Theme Waterpark in Limoges, Ont., has unveiled a new attraction called ‘Funtana,’ a water play area designed for children three years of age and under.
The themed waterpark is part of a $3 million investment by Group Calypso Valcartier. The 3,333 m2 (36,000 sf) attraction features more than 390 water jets spouting more than 450,000 L (118,877 gal) of water per hour. The focal point of ‘Funtana’ is a 132-m2 (1,420-sf) castle offering an oasis of fun for youngsters. The attraction also features two bridges, four tunnels, and a giant waterfall.
In total, the water play area includes 65 interactive water games including a giant chess board with child-friendly activities, four swings, and numerous water hoses and jets.
“Funtana and its castle represent a unique water attraction,” said Jérôme Drouin, vice-president for product development for Group Calypso Valcartier and the attraction’s conceptual designer. “The marine kingdom, with its friendly sea creatures, tunnels, bridges and water games, is specifically designed to entertain families with young children.
“With the enjoyment of toddlers in mind, we’ve created a perfect water playground for them. The physical scale of the attraction, its stylistic design and the colours we’ve selected to showcase the feature represent a giant ‘child-friendly’ toy.”
The Calypso Theme Waterpark officially opened summer 2010, representing a total investment of nearly $65 million. The waterpark encompasses more than 40.5 ha (100 acres) and features 35 heated waterslides, 100 water games, and one of Canada’s largest wave pools.
