CMAHC announces changes to the MAHC update process

The Council for the Model Aquatic Health Code (CMAHC) has made changes to the Model Aquatic Health Code (MAHC) update process.

The modifications—which are currently underway—are based on participant feedback after the last update cycle and are designed to help increase opportunities for member engagement and discussion. Some of the adjustments include:

• An expanded timeline for change request submission, which opened after Labour Day and runs through Jan. 6, 2020.
• An increased timespan for members to submit comments on proposed improvements to the MAHC, including:
  • The period when improvement requests are under review by the technical review committee and still being edited.
  • The timing after change requests have been reviewed and finalized by the board, but before the start of the Vote on the Code conference, so member comments may be included as part of discussions about change requests at the event.
  • The period that elapses after the conference but before polling begins to influence balloting.
• A minimum amount of 60 per cent “yes” votes required to pass an adjustment appeal.
• A requirement that all improvement demands address any potential cost impact on the industry.
• Designation of sector change request content liaisons who will review proposals in their area of expertise and alert other colleagues in their field about updates that necessitates member approval and participation in the auditing process.

Sixty-eight change requests for the next edition of the MAHC have already been submitted to the CMAHC and are available to review at www.cmahc.org/view-change-requests.php[2].

Additonally, the council is searching for its next technical director. The position entails driving the organization’s research agenda and works to expand understanding of the MAHC.
