Construction on the new Burnaby Lake Recreation Complex (BLRC) is slated to begin this July as the council has approved the final contract on the pool and arena redevelopment.

As per a report by BurnabyNow, the council has approved the $156.4-million contract, along with a contingency of $12.5 million to Ventana Construction (Design Build) Corp. to complete the design and construction work on the project.

The natatorium pool centre will include a 50-m (164-ft) pool with ten lanes, two bulkheads, and a movable floor. The combined leisure and six-lane 25-m (82-ft) pool will have a barrier-free entry, water and spray toys, and a lazy river. This natatorium also includes a diving tower, family hot tub, steam room, and sauna.

The BLRC aims to serve as a recreational and competitive sports hub, while being inclusive and meeting diverse needs of residents and visitors.
