David Barnsley, a long-time editor and writer within the pool and spa industry, recently passed away at the age of 67 after battling a lengthy illness.
Barnsley started his career as a trade and consumer magazine editor at Hubbard Marketing & Publishing Ltd. in 1987. For more than two decades, he contributed to the growth and success of Pool & Spa Marketing and Piscines & Spas. He also served as the editor for Pool & Spa Living, a consumer magazine which was sold to an American publisher; and later Pools, Spas & Patios, a consumer magazine providing valuable insights and guidance to a wide readership.
In 2008, Barnsley continued as editor on these titles for almost two years after Kenilworth Media Inc. acquired Hubbard Marketing & Publishing Ltd. along with its three magazines and Art of Water design awards.
Prior to his role as editor, Barnsley worked for the provincial government. His academic accomplishments were equally remarkable—he held a degree in French Literature from McGill University and a degree in Foreign Affairs from Carlton University. These educational backgrounds enhanced his understanding of language, culture, and global affairs, ultimately enriching his writing.
Beyond his professional achievements, Barnsley’s reserved demeanor and sharp intellect endeared him to his family, friends, and co-workers.
