Lac La Biche County in Alberta has chosen EllisDon and DIALOG to be part of the design-build team for its new aquatic facility. The facility is expected to cost $27 million and will be added to the Bold Center multiplex.

The county plans to use a “progressive design-build approach,” which involves early collaboration between the owner and a single contracting partner for both design and construction services. This approach allows the project design to meet requirements before finalizing the contract price and moving onto detailed design and construction.

The new aquatics facility is expected to be completed by fall 2025 and will include a teaching and leisure pool, a six-lane 25-m (82-ft) pool for competitive swimming, and a lazy river. The project was made possible by federal and provincial funding, totaling $15 million, with the county committing $12 million. Turnbull Construction Project Managers Ltd. has been hired to oversee the project.

Mayor Paul Reutov expressed excitement about the new facility, he says it will enhance the lifestyle of all members of Lac La Biche County by providing a safe, comfortable, and convenient place to meet, stay active, and engage with other community members.

The design-build team of EllisDon and DIALOG have experience working on similar projects, including the Royal Alberta Museum (RAM), the Walterdale Bridge, and the Calgary Cancer Centre.
