California will soon get its first facility that offers man-made waves in the form of the DSRT Surf Resort in Palm Desert.

Designed by AO and developed by Beach Street Development & Operations, the 8.6 ha (17 acres) resort includes a surf lagoon, four-storey hotel, surf centre, restaurant, boardwalk, and beaches, with construction expected to be completed in the spring 2026.

The 2.02 ha (5 acres) surf lagoon is characterized by a triangular shape, can accommodate up to 80 surfers simultaneously, and offers consistent, customizable waves suitable for all skill levels.

The 92-key hotel will be the hub of DSRT Surf Resort, featuring a dynamic surf centre, dining options, alongside luxurious amenities.

The lagoon will achieve net-zero water use, effectively maintaining the lagoon’s vitality and offsetting water usage, saving more than 37.8 million L (10 million gal) of water annually.
