Fluidra has pledged to plant a tree for every variable-speed pump sold between Oct. 24 and Oct. 28, as part of its Climate Action Week incentive to meet its environmental, social, and governance (ESG) goals.
Globally, Oct. 24 is known as the International Day of Climate Action, which is why Fluidra decided to make the pledge this week to reduce the impact of pools on the environment.
While many products can help increase a pool’s sustainability, such as pool covers, salt and mineral sanitizers, solar and electric heating, and LED lighting, the company chose to highlight variable-speed pumps because, on average, they offer 60 per cent greater efficiency when compared to traditional single-speed pumps.
Variable-speed pumps can be one of the simplest technologies pool owners and professionals can have to reduce the carbon footprint of their pools. The pools sold within this week will be able to offset their carbon emissions, and overall, Fluidra will be able to contribute to reforestation of areas it operates in.
According to research findings the company referred to, a single tree is known to offset up to 250 kgs (551 lbs.) of carbon dioxide (CO2) in its lifespan.
“Climate change is an issue that affects us all, both in our private and professional lives. We are playing our part by finding ways to help increase the sustainability of pools, as well as in the business practices we implement as a company,” says Eloi Planes, executive president at Fluidra.
