The Canadian pool industry lost a veteran this month with the passing of David Shaldoff. He was 90.

Shaldoff died on Jan. 19 following a long battle with Alzheimer’s. He was the founder of 7-11 Pool Products, a manufacturer based in Georgetown, Ont., that is currently managed by his second- and third-generation family members. He was also a founding member of the Canadian pool and spa association.

Shaldoff’s substantial career in the aquatics industry began after he designed, built, and installed a pool in his own backyard using the knowledge he picked up while working at the John Wood Company.

Throughout his career, Shaldoff pioneered many design-build trends, including the development of the three-tread inground ladder, as well as the rotationally moulded sand filter. Further, his leadership helped 7-11 Pool Metalfab become one of the first one-stop shop companies to offer complete inground pool kits, and allowed 7-11 Pool Distributors to be among the first manufacturers to offer custom liners in three days.

Shaldoff is survived by his daughters Michelle, Heather, Rhonda and, Kristina.
