The town of Riverview, N.B., has come up with designs and an updated cost schedule for a proposed recreation centre to house a pool, walking track, field house, and fitness centre, after almost a decade worth of planning.

The design concept is devised by MJMA Architecture and Design and Acre Architects for the 5,588-m2 (60,149-sf) facility. It will be built on a site near the Mill Creek Nature Park, right next to Bridgedale Boulevard. The proposed aquatic centre will have a 25-m (82-ft), eight-lane pool, with an adjacent leisure pool, aiming to do away with the city’s Pat Crossman Memorial Aquatic Centre.

The costs of building the centre ranges between $37 to $45 million.

The city has pinned its hopes on receiving funding through the Investing in Canada Infrastructure Fund, to meet 60 per cent of the associated costs.
