Residents in Clinton, Ont., will bid goodbye to the outdoor community pool next year after it remained closed for three years due to extensive repairs.

A few years ago, a health unit inspection found underground erosion in the pool from a leaky pipe, causing its deck to collapse.

The municipality voted to remove Clinton’s pool because filling it will cost $200,000 and building a new pool would cost $5 million.

Jim Ginn, mayor of the Municipality of Central Huron, says they put the pool closure to tender this summer, but it will likely be permanently closed only next year.

The closure of the community’s only pool has garnered an outcry from residents.
