London, England is to get the world’s first 360-degree high-rise swimming pool.

The project will be designed by Compass Pools and will be installed on top of a 55-storey building named Infinity London.

According to CNN[2], the 600,000- L (158,503.2- gal) pool will be made with cast acrylic and features transparent side walls and floors, which will provide visibility. Further, a spiral staircase, which rotates and rises through the water will be available to swimmers.

“We faced some major technical challenges to this building, the biggest one being how to actually get into the pool,” said the company’s swimming pool designer and technical director Alex Kemsley in the report.

The designers envision the pool will illuminate like a jewel torch at night due to light installations. An anemometer will be installed to monitor wind speed, which will be connected to a computer-controlled building management system to maintain the pool’s temperature and prevent water spillage. Water will be heated using waste energy from the building’s air conditioning system. Construction is expected to start in 2020.
