Coppter Water Technologies, an Israeli company based in the Negev, has developed a non-toxic and cost-efficient solution for disinfecting wastewater, water reservoirs, swimming pools, and hot tubs, which can serve as an alternative to chlorine.
According to a report by ISRAEL21c,[2] the key ingredient in the startup’s sterilizing solution is a monovalent copper ion with antimicrobial properties. By achieving a safe concentration of these ions—the startup owner has lowered the concentration of +1 oxidation state copper—which had previously not been achieved.
The report also states the CEO Yuval Kupitz says, within the startup’s laboratory, there is a Jacuzzi used for testing its cutting-edge technology. “In a 1,000-L (264-gal) Jacuzzi, there are one trillion bacteria,” says Kupitz. He emphasized that Coppter Water’s technology eradicates these bacteria in less than 10 minutes.
Further, according to the report, the company has successfully raised $500,000 in investment so far and it intends to construct a proof-of-concept (POC) pilot for a medium-sized wastewater treatment facility and establish beta locations for disinfecting swimming pools and Jacuzzis, contingent on the success of the forthcoming investment round.
