A project to rebuild the Norplex Pool facility will cost the City of Thompson, Man., $20 million. City council debated resolutions regarding the pool for more than an hour at its November meeting.
However, residents still await answers to two questions they have had since the existing pool shut down in February 2019: when the new pool will be built and how it will be paid for.
Stantec recently presented its design and engineering study for a new pool to the city. Some of that information was shared with a select group of residents and business people on Oct. 27.
The design included a recommendation to locate the pool beside the Thompson Regional Community Centre. The proposal includes a waterslide, a 25-m six-lane pool with one accessible lane, a sauna, a beach-entry recreational pool, and multi-purpose rooms for swim meets and parties.
